Mike Melinoe: ART Club Block Party Art & Music Showcase: December 1 & 2, 2018, at Meet at Relay, 1023 Springdale Rd #11A, Austin, Texas

MIKE MELINOE

SATURDAY SHAKE: DEC 1

Mindfully mysterious, Austin’s conscious riddler and extraordinary painter Mike Melinoe is a demigod. Melinoe’s music exists in a plane that marries psychedelic sounds to the intricate chaos that can only be summoned by a computer, which makes him of great interest on music loving millennials.

Melinoe raps with an elevated consciousness about his life, but eschews narrative for a collage of images. With impressive vocal elasticity, the artist treats beats as blank canvases rather than a series of lines waiting to be colored within. Melinoe sees life differently. Striving for greatness is only a matter of patience and persistence. Mike Melinoe just wants to be known as a creative genius who stopped at nothing to see his art, from music to the paint brush, evolve and inspire others.

LIP: ART Club Block Party Art & Music Showcase: December 1 & 2, 2018, at Meet at Relay, 1023 Springdale Rd #11A, Austin, Texas

LIP

SATURDAY SHAKE: DEC 1

Formed in Austin, Texas, LIP is a contemporary rock band influenced by the likes of the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Radiohead, and many others. Austin natives Coleman Meola (drums) and Connor Tester (bass/vocals) met in 2013. A year later, Connor filled a vacancy in Coleman’s place of residence. Affectionately referred to as “The Bone Zone” or “BZ”, this house was a proverbial East Austin gem, frequented by local musicians to jam and party. Connor and Coleman focused their energy on locking in a tight rhythm section and in late 2015, were introduced to recent Philadelphia transplant and Berklee graduate Jerome Vivino (lead guitar/vocals). It didn’t take long before the three musicians knew they had something special in the works. Thus, LIP was born. After 6 months of progress, they felt as though they needed another member to round out the sound. Jerome knew the perfect friend for the job, Nashville singer-songwriter Luke Bellet (lead vocals/keys/rhythm guitar). After months of rehearsing at the BZ, the band recorded and produced their debut, self-titled EP. Shortly after, the band relocated to South Austin and the BZ was condemned by the city. The band continued with the mixing and mastering process for the EP as they debuted their live set in July of 2017. The band released the single “Help” in late October 2017 in anticipation of their EP.

Sweater Beats: ART Club Block Party Art & Music Showcase: December 1 & 2, 2018, at Meet at Relay, 1023 Springdale Rd #11A, Austin, Texas

SWEATER BEATS

SUNDAY GROOVE: DEC 2

Producing music that makes you sweat.

The Philippines and suburban Maryland aren't exactly R&B or dance music hot beds, but they didn't need to be for Antonio Cuna aka Sweater Beats to ingest both genres and spit out an exciting hybrid, melding the sensuality of contemporary R&B with the immediacy of dance music. Born in the Philippines, Cuna moved to Maryland, adapting to his new environment by engaging with music and skate culture. But it wasn't long before R&B entered the picture, first as an obsession and later, while Cuna was at university in New York, as a creative outlet. Growing up in the 2000s, it's no surprise that Cuna's heroes include R&B producer mavens like Pharrell and Timbaland, as well as French dance music behemoths Daft Punk, but it's how he's filtered those influences into the ingenious sonic aesthetic, a sound equally fitting both the festival stage and bedroom play, that makes Sweater Beats such an unavoidably intriguing project.

Since bubbling up in the dance world with the premiere of his debut single ``Mlln Dllr`` on Annie Mac's Radio1 show, Sweater Beats has constantly pushed the limits of his own sound. With support from the likes of Diplo, Omarion, and JoJo, plus tours with artists like Chance the Rapper, Flume and Chet Faker, the producer has clearly caught the eye some of a wide variety of tastemakers. Featured by the likes of Billboard, Entertainment Weekly, Boiler Room and The FADER, Cuna has also received admiration from music journalists the world over, drawing almost universal praise from disparate outlets. With countless collaborations, mixes, and remixes, on top of a constant touring schedule, Cuna has garnered a reputation for his incessant work rate and willingness to push his sound into new and uncharted territory. And that's part of the reason why Cuna connects with his fan base on such a visceral level, eschewing traditional industry methods for his own unique, intimate manner of going about business.

FANCLUB

SUNDAY GROOVE: DEC 2

Fanclub is Mike Lee, Leslie Crunkilton, and Daniel Schmidt from Austin, TX. Fanclub began from Mike's love of twee pop, synth pop, and dreamy guitars. He searched for a vocalist, and when Leslie started singing on a song, it became clear that her voice would be the drive of the band. The songs are dazzling, both melancholic yet upbeat. Fanclub gives us a sound that is hopefully nostalgic, but also distinctly brand new.

They are an official SXSW 2019 Artist.
